Facebook Notifications

Ok, it’s time to reconsider my notifications on Facebook and other social networks.

I’m not sure how many of you have it enabled, but the new Push notifications on the iPhone app is quite shiny but overall there’s a few shortcomings.

Right now I have both Push and Email notifications enabled and I probably check my Facebook page 4-6 times a day.

In most cases, I check my Facebook more than I do my personal email. And since Push notifications demand attention, email notifications seem a little verbose and maybe even archaic?

So far Facebook and FourSquare are the only two social networks I have Push enabled on.

It’s not particularly the best platform for mass messaging - i.e. you’d only ever want 1-3 push messages every few hours otherwise the content becomes to difficult to manage. The last thing I want/need is yet another inbox - which is maybe why Wave didn’t really catch on for me.

Anyway, the future of Push notifications should be interesting, especially when the combination of push, geo and friend networks really start to gel together.

On that note, why hasn’t Tweetie/Twitteriffic got Push for DM’s yet?
